Broadcaster Rufai Oseni has challenged Peter Obi over his recent claim that he won the 2023 presidential election despite acknowledging that he has no evidence to substantiate the assertion.
Obi made the statement during a BBC Africa interview, maintaining that he still believed he won the election but responding that there was no evidence to prove the claim. INEC’s declared results placed Bola Tinubu first, Atiku Abubakar second and Obi third, while Obi’s legal challenge to the result was dismissed by the Presidential Election Petition Court and the Supreme Court upheld Tinubu’s victory.
Reacting on Arise Television, Oseni advised Obi not to make claims that he cannot support with evidence. He questioned whether Obi had detailed result-by-result analysis, spreadsheets or a separate collation of the 2023 results to support his position.
The comments have sparked fresh debate over Obi’s interpretation of the 2023 election, the evidence behind claims of victory and the importance of verifiable data in political arguments ahead of the 2027 election.
