Descriptions:
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has dismissed reports of a serious disagreement between FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and APC governors over the Rainbow Coalition, insisting that both sides remain united behind President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.
APC National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka described the reported dispute as a “false battle,” arguing that Wike and the governors share the same political objective of supporting Tinubu for another term. He pointed to Wike’s inclusion in the President’s campaign council as evidence of their common goal.
However, the controversy follows disagreements between Wike and some APC governors over his Rainbow Coalition. While Wike says the coalition is designed to mobilise support for Tinubu across party lines, APC governors have expressed concern about political arrangements that could weaken the party’s candidates in governorship and legislative elections.
Wike has maintained that supporting Tinubu does not mean other political parties must abandon their own candidates in state and National Assembly contests. This position has raised questions about how the coalition’s presidential objective will coexist with the APC’s interests at other levels of the 2027 elections.
Is the disagreement truly a “false battle,” as Morka claims, or are there competing political interests beneath the shared support for Tinubu? What could this mean for the APC and Wike’s Rainbow Coalition as the 2027 elections approach?
