MATTERS ARISING:Tinubu’s Weakness Confirmed+Farontimi-Tinubu not Jonathan+Coastal RD never Calabar’s
Nigeria’s political landscape is heating up as fresh controversies surrounding President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, opposition figures, major infrastructure projects and electoral technology dominate public discussion.
In this edition of *Matters Arising*, we examine claims about Tinubu’s political position and leadership, alongside lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi’s comparison of Tinubu with former President Goodluck Jonathan. What did Farotimi mean by saying Tinubu is not Jonathan, and what does the comparison reveal about leadership, accountability and democratic governance?
We also examine the controversy surrounding the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, following criticism over the project’s priorities and questions about its relevance to communities in Calabar and other parts of the South-South. Is the debate about the project’s route, its benefits, its cost or the government’s infrastructure priorities?
Finally, we turn to INEC and the growing debate over artificial intelligence (AI) in elections. As Nigeria prepares for 2027, questions about technology, electoral transparency, misinformation and the credibility of election results remain important. How should INEC use emerging technology while protecting the integrity of the electoral process?
These are the issues raising questions across Nigeria. Join the conversation and share your views in the comments.
*Which issue deserves the most attention: Tinubu’s leadership, the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, or INEC’s use of AI?*
