Descriptions:
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar emerged ahead of Peter Obi and other contenders in a 24-hour online presidential poll organised by the Tinubu Must Go (TMG) movement ahead of the 2027 elections.
The poll, conducted from September 24 to 25, recorded 109,799 responses. According to figures released by the organisers, the Atiku Abubakar–Rotimi Amaechi ticket received 80,809 votes, representing 73.6 per cent, while the Peter Obi–Rabiu Kwankwaso ticket received 24,519 votes, or 22.3 per cent. Other options accounted for 4.1 per cent.
The organisers say a detailed report covering the methodology, participation, reach and limitations of the exercise will be released. Because it was an open online poll organised by a political movement, the figures should not automatically be interpreted as representative of the views of Nigeria’s entire electorate.
What does the poll reveal about online political engagement ahead of 2027? How significant are the numbers, and what questions remain about measuring voter sentiment through online exercises?
