A heated controversy has erupted after former Blanco, Texas mayor Mike Arnold mocked Nigeria’s former communications minister Isa Pantami over reactions linked to the Middle East conflict. Arnold sarcastically compared U.S. bombing of Iran—which he linked to actions backed by former U.S. president Donald Trump—to Nigeria’s often-used explanation of violent attacks as “farmer-herder conflict.”
In his mocking response, Arnold said the bombing could simply be described as a “simple farmer-herder conflict,” mirroring language sometimes used in Nigeria to downplay terrorism and banditry. The comment followed a viral video circulating online that allegedly showed Pantami emotional over the reported death of Iran’s Supreme Leader during U.S.–Israeli airstrikes in the escalating Middle East war.
