Former Bayelsa State Governor and ex-Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), accusing the ruling party of abandoning the ideals upon which it was founded.
Sylva, who described himself as a founding member of the APC, said he could no longer remain in a party whose leaders, in his view, had embraced the belief that “all is fair in politics.” He also accused the APC-led Federal Government of disappointing Nigerians and said he could see neither a credible attempt nor the possibility of revamping the party.
The former governor went further to accuse the EFCC of increasingly behaving like an organ of the APC, rather than an independent institution of state.
His resignation comes as political realignments intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, raising questions about the impact of Sylva’s departure on the APC in Bayelsa and the wider South-South.
