Descriptions:
The Kwankwasiyya Movement has criticised former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar and the African Democratic Congress (ADC), accusing them of failing to clearly explain what they intend to offer Nigerians ahead of the 2027 general election.
The movement’s spokesperson, Dr Habibu Sale Mohammed, made the allegation during an appearance on Daily Trust TV’s Day Break. He argued that political parties should present clear policies, ideas and leadership capacity to convince voters rather than blame their challenges on politicians who refuse to join them.
Mohammed alleged that the ADC was relying too heavily on Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to advance Atiku’s presidential ambition. He also claimed that the ADC had failed to provide a level playing field for political aspirants, describing the party as increasingly being viewed as a platform for Atiku’s ambition.
The comments come amid growing tension between the ADC and the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) following Obi and Kwankwaso’s decision to leave the ADC and partner under the NDC platform. Kwankwaso has also ruled out stepping aside for Atiku or any other party in the 2027 presidential race.
The exchange raises questions about the future of opposition cooperation, the policy choices being presented to Nigerians and whether rival political camps can find common ground before the election.
Does the ADC need to do more to explain its plans for Nigeria, or is this another chapter in the struggle for opposition leadership?
