Dele Momodu, Deputy Director-General of Media and Communications of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Presidential Campaign, has declared former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar the best candidate for the 2027 presidential election, claiming that even President Bola Tinubu recognises Atiku’s leadership credentials. Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Thursday, October 22, 2026, Momodu described Atiku as a deliberate and focused politician who has pursued his presidential ambition since 1993.
Momodu argued that Atiku’s experience as vice-president gives him a different set of leadership credentials from Tinubu’s experience as Lagos State governor and Peter Obi’s tenure as governor of Anambra State. He also criticised Tinubu’s handling of the country’s affairs, arguing that governing Nigeria requires more than the experience gained from managing Lagos State. According to Momodu, Tinubu’s previous political engagement with Atiku demonstrates that the President is familiar with the former vice-president’s abilities. However, this remains Momodu’s interpretation and does not establish Tinubu’s current view of Atiku.
With the 2027 election approaching, the comments add to the growing political debate over the experience, records and qualifications of the major presidential contenders. Do you agree with Momodu’s assessment of Atiku, or should the candidates be judged primarily on their records, policies and plans for Nigeria?
