Descriptions:

A fresh political disagreement has emerged within the Accord Party following the inclusion of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke in the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 re-election bid.

Accord Party presidential candidate Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has rejected suggestions that Adeleke’s position as the party’s only elected governor gives him the authority to dictate the party’s political direction or determine how Osun residents should vote in the presidential election.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Olawepo-Hashim insisted that Adeleke is not the national leader of Accord Party and cannot compel its members or the people of Osun State to support Tinubu. He maintained that the party’s leadership structure and the choices of voters must be respected.

The disagreement highlights the complications of cross-party alliances ahead of the 2027 elections. While Adeleke has endorsed Tinubu’s re-election, Accord’s presidential candidate is insisting that the party retains its own political identity and presidential ambitions.

The development raises important questions about party loyalty, political freedom and whether support for a sitting president by an opposition governor automatically translates into support from the governor’s party.

Can Adeleke’s endorsement influence Osun voters, or will Accord Party members follow their presidential candidate’s position? What does this disagreement mean for the political contest ahead of 2027?
