Fuel Subsidy: The inconsistency of Atiku Abubakar

Atiku Abubakar’s fuel subsidy position is under fresh scrutiny as critics question his decision to promise a return of subsidy after previously campaigning for its removal. SDP presidential candidate Adewole Adebayo has accused Atiku of inconsistency, pointing to the difference between his 2023 position and his current 2027 proposal.

Atiku, however, argues that his proposal is different from the old subsidy regime and would use Nigeria’s crude resources and domestic refining capacity to reduce fuel costs and protect Nigerians from price shocks.
