Descriptions:

Peter Obi has backed the removal of petrol subsidy, saying the policy itself was necessary but criticising the Federal Government over what he described as the poor management of the money saved from it.

Speaking at the Nigerian Bar Association conference in Port Harcourt, the NDC presidential candidate said subsidy removal should have been accompanied by measures that directly benefited Nigerians, particularly investments in healthcare and other critical sectors.

Obi’s position puts him at odds with Atiku Abubakar, who has proposed restoring petrol subsidy if elected in 2027.

In this video, we examine Obi’s position, Tinubu’s subsidy policy, the controversy over subsidy savings and what the competing economic visions could mean for Nigerians ahead of 2027.
