Reno Omokri has come to the defence of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu amid the renewed controversy over the President’s FBI and DEA records.
Omokri argues that the existence of FBI records bearing Tinubu’s name does not automatically mean that the President has a criminal record, noting that US agencies maintain records for various reasons, including routine background checks and immigration-related processes.
He also questioned reports suggesting that the FBI had released a criminal record on Tinubu, describing such claims as misleading. Omokri maintains that Tinubu has no criminal record and says the records being discussed could contain sensitive personal, biometric and financial information rather than evidence of criminal conduct.
The controversy comes as opposition figures, including Peter Obi, continue to demand transparency over the records and question why Tinubu is challenging their further release.
So, are FBI files automatically evidence of criminality, or should Nigerians demand that the records be made public to settle the controversy once and for all?
