Descriptions:
A new twist has emerged in the ongoing $2.1 million land dispute involving Jordan Wike, son of FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, as the claimants have asked for the case to be transferred to another judge over alleged family and community ties.
The claimants’ counsel, Ibrahim Waru, reportedly wrote to the Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Justice Husseini Baba-Yusuf, requesting that the suit be reassigned from the court presided over by Justice Sylvanus Oriji. The lawyer cited concerns about a possible perception of bias and argued that transferring the case would help protect public confidence in the fairness of the proceedings. The request is an allegation of potential bias, not proof that the judge has acted improperly. Punch
The civil suit was filed by Safwan Garba GY and GY Global Oil and Gas Nigeria Limited, who allege that they paid $2.1 million in connection with a proposed real estate venture involving land in Katampe and Guzape, Abuja. They are seeking a refund, interest and damages.
Jordan Wike has denied receiving the money and told the court that his signature on a document linking him to the transaction was forged. The allegations remain contested, and the court has not established liability. The case is scheduled to continue on December 1, 2 and 14, 2026.
Will the Chief Judge approve the request to transfer the case? What does this development mean for public confidence in the judicial process? Share your views in the comments.
